ENERGY-bikes 2021

During Expeditie Gillis & Govaerts, Sander and Laura presented for a week in a forest. To provide them with electricity, CORE built two electric bicycles that convert motion into electricity.

The bike rollers were compactly transformed into generators that can supply electrical devices with 230 volts. Any device can be connected as long as the power generated is feasible for the cyclist. A voltmeter is attached to the bike handlebars to indicate the amount of voltage the cyclist is generating.

The bikes were used to launch the latest single "Snow" from Stan Van Samang's album "Feel the POWER" during Expeditie Gillis & Govaerts. Stan performed his song Snow while Sander and Laura generated energy through the bikes. The energy bikes were connected to letter lamps spelling out "POWER," which referred to the album's name.

The video clip below shows Stan's live performance using our energy bikes.

When you ride the bike, you will feel that you have to pedal hard to make the lights glow. This demonstrates the amount of energy required to generate electricity. When we simply plug in our devices without thinking, we are unaware of this energy consumption.

Thanks to the assistance of KU Leuven, this project came to fruition.
